New Version Released

A new version of Phosphene is available now!

The biggest feature of this release is the addition of a large outside area you can explore, but quite a few things have been added, updated, or changed:

  • Two types of resource nodes have been added: Mirror Dew and Phosphorescence. In the future these resource nodes will recharge over time, but since the prototype is still fairly small they are one-time-use-only right now.
  • Key item objects have been added: These are similar to resource nodes, but provide special items that have specific uses in puzzles. You can only carry one of each key item type at a time, but the nodes refresh if you use or otherwise lose the key item.
  • Music has been added! Several tracks have been added for different areas of the world.
  • A new puzzle type has been implemented: item placement puzzles. These puzzles are directly related to the key item objects, and will require you to find appropriate items to open new areas or gain access to abilities.
  • New runes and an updated rune style: A key element of Phosphene is learning how to interpret runes found throughout the world, and this update adds several new runes designed in an updated (and less "robotic" looking) style.
  • A simple quest system is now available: Phosphene isn't meant to be a strictly quest driven game, but it is still handy to have a way to keep track of major goals, so there is a simple quest tracking and a basic UI for quest progress in this release.

Phosphene is still very early in development, so at the moment the goal of the game is simply to find and collect all of the items and resources (the new quest tracking UI comes in handy for this). With the addition of the first outside area and the first puzzle to be related to the in-game rune language this update does start to have a bit of the flavor of the vision for the game as a whole.
